sister, 2021.

stoneware, glaze, yarn, sewing thread.

sister became my first exploration of gender complexity within my ceramic art practice. I engraved myself as a faceless, (perhaps) uncomfortable, and vulnerable figure. I was able to create a version of myself with no breasts, embodying a post-operative image through the temporality of clay. This allowed me to imagine a permutation of my body as malleable (note: the breasts “set” off to the side). Gender affirming surgery is a regular curiosity of mine as a gender fluid individual - although I remain unsure in my intention to receive this form of gender affirming medical care.
